The 48th session of the World Heritage Committee is being held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from July 19 to 29. The Republic of Armenia is also participating in the session as a country elected to the Committee for the first time. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia.

The Armenian delegation includes Harutyun Vanyan, Head of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, along with five national experts. The delegation is headed by Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to UNESCO.

Armenia’s new nomination, “Areni-1 Cave: Prehistoric Life and Winemaking in the Arpa River Valley,” has been approved for inclusion on UNESCO’s Tentative World Heritage List.

The nomination was prepared on the basis of a previously signed memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the Areni-1 Cave Research Foundation, and the Enotourism Council of Armenia NGO, with financial support provided by the Enotourism Council of Armenia NGO. This represents another successful example of public-private partnership.
